Ok, now we've got rid of those 'fuddy duddy' classical music buffs, we can talk about the really interesting stuff, rock 'n roll…OK, popular music in London.
London has many famous venues hosting rock and pop concerts. These include large arenas such as Earls Court in west London, Wembley Arena in north London and the O2 Arena in Greenwich, south east London. | | The Sex Pistols | There are also many mid-size venues , such as the Brixton Academy , the Hammersmith Apollo and The Shepherd's Bush Empire . These venues constantly provide top-name billings .
The illustrious Abbey Road Studios remains the place where The Beatles created many of their hits. The famous zebra crossing featured on the Abbey Road album cover is still there 40 years after it was traversed by those famous feet.
London has been, and remains today the home of many world-renowned musicians. Bob Marley , Jimi Hendrix and Freddie Mercury all lived in London during their all-too-brief lives. Madonna lived in London before taking on the role of English country squire (squiress?) and subsequently moving back to the USA.

|  | | O2 Arena | Many top entertainers have originated from, or are associated with London, including Elton John , George Michael and David Bowie . Groups such as The Rolling Stones , The Who , Madness and Queen also had strong associations with the capital.
London was instrumental in the development of punk music , with figures such as the Sex Pistols and The Clash all based in the city.
More recent artists to emerge from the London music scene include Coldplay , Amy Winehouse , Leona Lewis , The Kooks , Razorlight and Adele .
For the more specialised tastes, London is also a centre for Urban music . In particular the genres UK Garage , Drum and Bass , Dubstep and Grime evolved in the city from the foreign genres of Hip Hop and Reggae , alongside local drum and bass.
Black music station BBC 1Xtra was set up to support the rise of homegrown urban music both in London and the rest of the UK.
