"Food, Glorious Food…" warbled young Oliver Twist in Lionel Bart's wonderful musical 'Oliver'.

Was young Oliver extolling the virtues of London's culinary capabilities, one wonders?

Probably not, methinks!

But nevertheless, people who like good food and good wine, and who are looking for places to eat in London, will find that London offers a superb variety of cuisine. To a large extent, these days, this is as a result of its ethnically diverse population.

Like most large cities, and indeed any place really, visitors to London will find different standards or quality of food on offer. If the choice is to eat at The Ivy , or a Gordon Ramsay restaurant, a healthy bank account and the title of 'Lord' or 'Sir' is marginally preferable at the time of booking to a plain old Mr or Mrs.

Unless this title is followed by the name Windsor or Beckham , of course!

Exclusive, expensive places like the Ivy and its ilk are not for the faint-hearts or those light in the wallet. Nevertheless, they offer an experience to savour and caress, almost like the fine old claret suggested by the sommelier.

However, if care is taken on research , or reliable recommendations followed, then the food available in London's restaurants should meet the highest of standards and represent reasonable value.

Visitors with a taste for ethnic dishes should try the gastronomic centres including the Bangladeshi restaurants of Brick Lane and the Chinese restaurants of Chinatown .

Wherever and whatever you decide to eat in London, do your rearch and we're sure, like young Oliver, you'll be asking for more!
